Wi‑Fi is fine for tablets and guest phones. The desk that posts GST invoices to a local Tally server should almost always be on a cable. Metal sheds, VFDs, and microwave ovens in the canteen all love to chew wireless — and accounts feels it as “Tally hang”.
A simple rule Digitech uses
- Wire: Tally server, accounts PCs, biometric PC, CCTV NVR, main printers
- Wi‑Fi OK: phones, tablets, visitor laptops, non-critical browsing
If a clerk must sit near packing, run a drop to that bay once. Roaming between access points mid-voucher is a common cause of company locks and half-saved reports.
When wireless is unavoidable
Use a dedicated SSID for ops gear, not the guest password printed on the wall. Keep the access point off the same noisy channel as every neighbour, and still back the accounts PC with a spare patch lead to the nearest switch. See also our office network checklist.
Symptoms that point to Wi‑Fi, not “slow Tally”
Disconnects only when the mixer or welding bay runs, speed tests that look fine on a phone next to the router, and one desk that fails while the wired neighbour is fine. Digitech will check cable and switch before blaming the ERP.
