Cloud Tally is fine when the internet is calm. On many packing and pharma floors around Nalagarh, accounts still need to invoice when the ISP blips. Digitech usually puts Tally.ERP on a small local server (or a locked accounts PC that behaves like one) and lets the shop floor connect over the LAN.
One company data, not five copies
If every clerk has a Tally folder on a desktop, you will spend a month reconciling. Put the company data on the server share Digitech names, and give Gold/Silver licences that match how many people actually post vouchers — not how many PCs exist.
Backup is a restore test
A nightly zip on the same disk is not a backup. We want a copy off the box (USB rotated weekly, or a second NAS) and a date when someone last opened that copy in Tally. If that date is never, assume it will fail at year end.
Who may log in from the floor
Dispatch often needs stock. They do not need payroll. Split users, and do not share the administrator password on WhatsApp. Manufacturing features (BOM, job work) belong in a written setup — that is the Tally work we do on site, not a YouTube playlist.
When cloud still helps
CA access from Chandigarh or a second unit in Baddi is easier with a VPN into the same server, or a hosted copy that syncs. Hybrid is normal. The goal is that Friday invoicing does not wait on a fibre cut.
